"The 55th Clouded International Medical Equipment Fair" proposed by the CMEF

I was likely to see the 55e international biomedical living room in China from the 26 to April 29, 2006. This exposure proceeds each year in the town of Shenzhen in China. Here a small outline of what one can find there.


1) general Presentation

These last years in France, one speaks much about China. Indeed, a market of 1,3 billion consumers remains always impressive.
Under these conditions, all the events very quickly become not easily conceivable extensive for French.

While comparing with the statistics of the living room Medica (which remains "the" living room of biomedical), living room CMEF makes only half of it.
However, the CMEF aims only the Chinese market whereas Medica aims at the world market, it is a little as if it were said that half of medica was intended only for China.

Some figures:

* More than 2000 exhibitors (4200 for Medica in 2005)
* More than 50 000 visitors of 25 countries (137 000 for Medica in 2005)
* 80 000 m² of exposure (12 football fields)
* it took me 2 hours to make the turn without stop of it

Essential information for all those which are close to their porte-monnaie, the entry is free. You have only to present your calling card and in exchange you have the invaluable pass.
It is imperatively necessary to come with your calling cards, the exchange of the charts is very widespread here. Even if you do not include/understand what the exhibitor tries to explain you, it will give you his chart, least courtesies and to give him your.

To benefit fully from the exposure, it is preferable to know the Chinese. English will not always help you. If you to speak only French..... good luck.
One can however note that this year, 13 French exhibitors were present.

2) what one finds there

The apparatuses most represented are the parametric monitors multi and the ECG. Of course one cannot create 200 different monitors. One thus does not find badly monitors which resemble each other. One can however note that the tendency in China and to the wireless telegraphy, and the interconnectivity with the stations of monitoring.
For the fans of home cinema, nothing is more beautiful than the posting of the parameters of ten patients on a screen plasma of forty inches.

Another apparatus which must be easy to manufacture considering its broad representation on the living room it is the electric lancet. As soon as you feel a small cramée meat odor, it is that somebody beside you tests an apparatus and when there is a score of apparatus in the same sector, one is close to asphyxiation. Of course the forms of waves of the various coagulation or cutting modes go from simplest to most exotic (I like much the last form of wave)

Then, one can find in insane quantity of the video columns, endoscope and all the accessories which go with. As for the lava endoscope, I did not succeed in knowing which were the protocols of disinfection in China. One can see marks marketed in France however there. I did not succeed in knowing if they had the same problems as us with the peracetic acid.

Always in the field of visual the microscopes are also very present at this living room. Beside the large marks which we know who make of the lenses of quality since several tens of years. Microscope of laboratory under the surgical microscope, you can of course all test (I had never seen the pistil of a flower of also near).

Concerning the large methods of imagery, there must be on the Chinese market at least 10 different scanners and more than one half-dozen of different open IRM. When one was always accustomed to see these methods coming from 3 manufacturers, that made a shock. Do not hesitate when you buy your IRM to accompany it by a small surgical robot (photo of right-hand side in red).

If Chinese Industries are able to manufacture several large different methods, you think well that no matter who can manufacture you the small methods like the rooms bone lung, or the mobiles of radiography (I did not have courage to count how much it y' had the different one). One can note that for these methods the numerical whole is not very widespread, thus one can still find a good number of chemical developers for example.

Always in the imagery for the echographs, one finds tons of manufacturers once again. Portable echograph while passing by Doppler and the 3D/4D one finds of all with good cavity all the probes which go with. Here a photograph of a small echo which drew my attention which is constituted of a base to which it is enough to connect a portable and a probe (it is an American product)

On the level of the treatments of cancer what could be better than a particle accelerator old good which I of three particle accelerators say (I all did not take them in photograph, but there was to be more than 5 of different mark)

Side of the laboratories, those are not remains about it with initially full of centrifugal machines, full of automats of laboratory and full with micropipettes electric.

Forthe anaesthesia and the reanimation, one badly does not find a respirator or of station which resembles itself. I nevertheless had the impression that there were more humidifiers available than of "respiratory" machine.

Concerning the specialities, one badly does not find a product intended for ophthalmology. The dentist's chairs are them also of the festival with more or less of option and accessory. There in neonatalogy you will find still a great choice of incubator and product related to the infant. Finally for the surgery you will find cavity well all the tools and hardware necessary and in great quantity.

And one does not forget the children with these coatings of monitor which are judicious to reassure the child.

And to conclude, it is always interesting to make a small turn in a box hyperbare very equipped.



In bulk:
One can find all furniture also there and the accessories for which a hospital with requirements in great quantity, counts of C$op, beds, clothing, arm ceiling light, sterilization, stethoscopes, pushes syringes...
To note that the pharmaceutical contents are not put in pockets out of PVC, but in bottles of glasses. One can nevertheless find a very great diversity of pipe. One can find some as much as it y' has of supplier of cable and sensor for ECG or SPO2.
And there if ever you seek products running but specific as of the tubes to x-ray you will have still the choice.

Chinese specificity:
China is recognized for its traditional medicine, one can thus find various accessories for this medicine like needles for acupuncture or of the diagrams of the human body representing of the points private individual on the body (I do not extend more on the subject, because I know nothing there)



3) the large absent ones
It may be that I would have passed beside certain products which I did not see. Always it is that it would seem that the Chinese market is not interested in certain products.

Dialyse:
I did not see a room of treatment of water. The few machines of dialysis presents were very unknown to me separate a Japanese mark. And finally, I saw one kidney machine (I repeat that I am little to have passed beside something without seeing it)

Nuclear medicine:
I did not see a gamma-camera either, nor of FART Scan which is however a latest thing in this moment in occident.

Certain international marks
I here will not quote of name, but several great groups did not consider it useful to move. But that they are reassured, their products (even recent) are already present under other mark. Attention I did not say that it acted of copy.

4) copies
It should be known that in China one copies all, but it is not badly seen (except for the authorities and the international relations).
Attention, I do not speak here about copy of Tee-shirt of mark. Perhaps the Chinese are inspired by existing product on the world market, but do not make a pure copy and lasts (in the biomedical one). The biomedical products all are clinically tested and are as powerful as other products coming besides.

And then in any event everyone made the same thing type capsule of endoscopy on a search engine and you will see how many different marks you will find. Eh well the Chinese them also developed their capsules.

I could discuss with American who realized one day that these products were copied in China. It went to the site and could only contemplate the width of these losses. Instead of leaving in legal procedures which would have been long, complicated and expensive, it joined its "copiers". Thus, everyone finds its account there, the Chinese who can discover new manufacturing processes brought by American, and which can now export out of the Chinese market. American recovers less expensive products with manufacture with a level of quality than it can control.

And then the small anecdote of the manufacturer of ventilator and station of anaesthesia which does not hesitate to say to me that one of these modelled has the same performances and the same options as another model known universally. Obviously, it proposes a super basic price to me, which is lower than its competitor, and can even make me a discount. The advantage of this one, it is that it had marking EC, which is not the case of a good number of exhibitors. But good while digging a little he says to me that he does not have yet a distributor in Europe.

5) Quality control

My various exchanges with Chinese engineers and biomedical technicians quickly made me understand that "the quality assurance" was not yet one of the concerns of the sector. With the question which are the preventive maintenances to carry out, about an apparatus, it is answered me that here one is useful oneself of the machine to the maximum. One makes it turn a maximum, it is not too question of stopping it to make preventive maintenances top. When one has more the choice, one repairs.
In this spirit I suspected a little that I was not going to see much tools for the control of the performances of the machines. Until I fall on a well-known company in France. On their side, not produced again, but a reorganization of the line of goods is in gestation.


Conclusion
One should not mistake, this living room is made for the Chinese market.

If you are an industrialist who wishes to be established in China, it is necessary that you y silk present.

If you are an engineer bio in a French private clinic or hospital, it is not here that you will find the last innovations likely to interest you, but to only discover another culture bio that is worth displacement.

If you are an investor who wishes to import Chinese material, sachet which the Chinese have already a market: China. Why this to complicate the life has to try to pass all the administrative barriers and the Western cultures ("ah they is Chinese thus it is bad quality" undeceive). On the other hand, you will be able to find there partners who do very good work.

To conclude, I am very glad to have seen this exposure. I remain impressed by the quantity of product which one can find and the level of quality and completion of certain Chinese products. I do not know what us the future serves again, but of the Chinese material in our establishments is not to exclude in the next years. (in any event, you do not mistake the majority of the constituent elements there your machines are made in China; -) )
