Siemens Healthcare Services (SHS) has signed a 33-year MES managed equipment service agreement with the consortium responsible for the design and construction of Queens hospital in Romford – part of the Barking, Havering and Redbridge Hospitals NHS Trust. I am so proud of working in this project.
SHS will provide all medical equipment, from imaging equipment, such as MRI and CT scanners, to patient monitoring systems, anaesthetic machines and syringe pumps for the Queens Hospital. In addition, all equipment is fully maintained and managed throughout the term of the contract. An intrinsic part of the maintenance service is the provision of an Electro Biomedical Engineering Department.

I am so proud of working in this project. This is a very state-of-the-art business idea and I predict that it have brilliant future. Alike IBM sold their PC business to Lenovo and concentrate on their computer solution service business, under competition from low cost Chinese manufactures, global giant companies shall utilize their advanced management experience and high-quality service system to provide integrated professional solution to customers. Rather than investing more resource into the low profit manufacture and trading market, Managed Equipment Service business can be a very important business section and develop direction for global giant companies to keep their market leadership. -----Jerry Bao
Innovation China UK is a collaborative business development and technology transfer partnership jointly funded by HEFCE’s Higher Education Innovation Fund3 (HEIF3) and the Government of China. ICUK supports five UK HEIs and over twenty Chinese HEIs in commercially exploiting their joint research worldwide. ICUK’s British partners are Queen Mary, University of London (Lead), King’s College London, Royal Veterinary College, the University of Nottingham and the University of Southampton. ICUK key activities include:
1. A Collaboration Development Fund into which partner UK and China HEIs submit joint applications for proof-of-concept and business development grants;
2. A state-of-the-art knowledge network and a complementary events and dissemination programme;
3. Commercialisation of joint intellectual property (IP) generated through the above collaborations.
中國學術興起 人財兩旺
隨著漢語熱和來華經商熱的興起，愈來愈多外國學生選擇到中國留學，親身體驗中國文化；另一方面，中國學者的科研水平上升，外國院校亦紛紛與中國專家開展合作項目，使中國的大學聲譽更隆，得以躋身世界前列。
留學生的數量是衡量世界一流大學的重要指標。根據2005年的數據，清華大學2005-06年秋季學期的在校外國留學生人數共1,752名，佔總數的52%；而北京大學在2003年的留學生比例約為10%，專家估計時下已超出此數目。
科研水平是評核大學的另一項因素，中國政府對推動本土與外國的大學合作不遺餘力。上月，在中英政府的大力支持下，兩國多間重要大學建立起研究夥伴關係，涉及的研究資金達數百萬英鎊，為期兩年。這個名為「Innovation China UK」(中英創新合作，ICUK)的計劃，有5間英國大學和至少20間中國學府參與，包括北京大學、清華大學和復旦大學。英國貿工部已撥出500萬鎊(約7,300萬港元)的資助，中國教育部亦承諾為計劃注入相若的資金。如此規模的合作可謂破天荒的一次。 ■綜合報道香港文匯報（網絡）有限公 司 版權所有 2006-10-06
